St Mary’s Catholic Primary School Hay has offered a sound academic education in the Catholic Tradition since it was established in 1883 by the Presentation Sisters. We are part of the Catholic Education System of the Diocese of Wilcannia-Forbes. As a school community we work together to provide a safe, happy and welcoming school environment for students, staff and parents.
At the commencement of each year all our Year 6 students are inducted as Captains, Vice Captains and Prefects at a special Mass. With our school motto "Deeds Not Words Only" and our five school rules, these leaders, along with staff and parents, endeavour to help all children develop independence and resilience and the ability to make helpful choices in their lives so that they can contribute to a society firmly based on the life of Jesus.
Our school baseline behaviours are:
- Speak to Please
- Right Place, Right Time, Right Task
- Hats On, Games On
- Be Safe, Play Safe
Our students are challenged to achieve their personal best in all that they do. The school’s Learning and Teaching Policy ensures that academically sound learning experiences are provided for students as well as additional opportunities such as the annual Australasian Schools Competitions. Additionally all our Year 3 and Year 5 students participate in the NSW NAPLAN Tests which provide detailed reports to parents and to the school.
St Mary’s School proudly maintains an extensive playground area which provides trees and shade, open grassed spaces and equipment for sport and active play. Children are encouraged to live an active and healthy lifestyle which includes opportunities for participating in a wide range of sports both at school level and representative level.
St Mary’s School is an integral part of the St Fergal’s Catholic Parish with Liturgical and Sacramental activities providing shared opportunities to nurture the faith development of the students and their families. We welcome enquiries and assure families of a warm welcome to our school community.
